Digital Discovery Workshop
Get clarity on what your next web project. Synchronise your business goals with your user’s needs while getting stakeholders aligned.
OUR CLIENTS
Successful Projects Start with Strategy
Stop wasting money on web projects built from assumptions
Most organisations jump straight into website projects without understanding what they actually need. They brief agencies based on assumptions, not research.
Discovery Workshop gives you what you actually need: clear requirements before you commit.
In 2 weeks, you’ll know exactly what to build, what it costs, how long it takes, and whether it’s worth doing. Research-based, not guesswork-based.
Then you decide: work with us, brief another agency, or build it internally.
Fixed scope. Fixed price. No assumptions.

Get clarity on what you need
We will organise stakeholder workshops, together with deep analysis of your technical stack, content and analytics
Stakeholder workshops
Get everyone in a room (virtual or real) and hash out the important stuff. What does success look like? Who are the users? What are they trying to do? What constraints do we have? What’s the approval process look like?
Technical assessment
Look at what you’ve got now (if redesigning). Figure out what integrations you need. Assess whether your technical requirements are “straightforward” or “oh god why would you want to do that.”
Content audit/planning
For redesigns: count all the pages, figure out what’s staying and what’s dying. For new builds: work out what content you need and who’s creating it.
Analytics review
If you’re redesigning, we look at what’s actually working now. What are people using? Where are they dropping off? What can we learn before we bin everything?
WEEK 2
Document everything properly
We take everything from Week 1 and turn it into actual requirements that agencies can quote against.
You get: functional requirements, technical specs, integration architecture, content strategy, success metrics, project phases, timeline estimates, budget parameters, risk assessment.
Everything documented. Everything yours. Ready to use however you want.
Final presentation
We walk you through everything, answer questions, discuss next steps. No surprises. No big reveal. You’ve been involved the whole way.
Then what?
Three options. Your choice.
Continue with us
Discovery cost gets credited against the project.
We already understand your requirements deeply. You already understand our approach. Fixed price based on the scope we just defined together.
Why do most people continue with us?
Because by the end of Discovery, both sides know if it’s a fit. No surprises.
Work with another agency
Take the requirements and brief your preferred agency. Or run a proper tender where agencies can quote against the same scope (so you’re comparing apples to apples, not guesses to wild guesses).
Sometimes there are good reasons to work with someone else: procurement requirements, existing relationships, specialised expertise you need, budget constraints. We’d rather you make the right choice than lock you into the wrong one.
Build internally or pause
Sometimes Discovery reveals the project is bigger than expected. Or the budget needs reworking. Or internal capacity doesn’t exist. Or priorities have shifted.
That’s valuable to know before you waste $100K.
Use the outputs to get proper budget approval, phase the work over 18 months, build internal capability for parts of it, or make the case to executives for why this matters.
Who we work with
You’ve got complex data architecture, publication repositories that need integrating, multiple stakeholder groups who can’t agree on anything, and you need to demonstrate research impact. Template solutions won’t work.
Student conversion is everything, you’ve got integration requirements, content governance across 47 different departments who all think they’re special, alumni engagement, and prospective students comparing you to every other university on earth.
Privacy compliance, accessibility requirements, patient and professional audiences with completely different needs, integration with appointment systems and patient portals, content that requires clinical accuracy. Yeah, you need proper scoping.
Public accountability requirements, accessibility compliance (properly, not just tick-box), limited internal technical resources, approval processes that move at geological speed, and you need to prove value to secure ongoing funding.

We’ll discuss what you’re trying to achieve, whether Discovery Workshop makes sense for your situation, ballpark scope and cost.
Sometimes Discovery Workshop is overkill. Sometimes a lighter scoping exercise works. Sometimes you’re actually ready to build. We’ll tell you honestly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Maybe not the full thing. We’ll review what you’ve got and identify gaps. If you’ve done solid user research, we don’t repeat it, we build on it.
We remove any work you’ve already done from the work and reduce the price of the workshop.
For genuinely simple projects we are happy to run what we call a Discovery Sprint.
It is usually a 2hrs workshop followed by a recommendation session with the absolute essentials: stakeholder alignment, basic requirements, rough timeline and budget.
Cost: $1,000
What you don’t get: deep technical assessment, detailed content strategy, comprehensive integration analysis.
We appreciate the vote of confidence, genuinely. But we still need Discovery to scope the project properly before we can give you a fixed price.
We can roll it into the project as Phase 1 if you prefer, but we’re not quoting delivery without understanding requirements first. That’s how projects go sideways.
Absolutely. We’ve delivered projects across Australia, UK, Europe, and Asia.
Most Discovery Workshops run entirely remotely. If you want in-person workshops and have budget for travel, we can do that too.
Then we help you phase it properly:
Phase 1:
Core functionality, critical content. Launch something valuable.
Phase 2:
Enhanced features, full content migration. Prove ROI, secure more budget.
Phase 3:
Advanced integrations, optimisation. Scale what’s working.
You launch Phase 1 within budget, prove it was worth doing, then get funding for Phases 2-3 based on actual results instead of promises.
Absolutely. You own everything. If you’ve got internal dev resources and want to tackle it yourselves, the outputs give you everything you need to scope and manage that work.
We work iteratively with check-ins throughout. If you’re unhappy with direction, we fix it immediately, no waiting until the end for a big reveal.
That said: if by end of Week 1 you genuinely think we’re not delivering value, we’ll refund 50% and give you everything we’ve completed.
Never happened, but the option exists.
Strategy consultants give you PowerPoint presentations and charge $10K-$50K. They don’t have technical depth to assess whether their recommendations are actually feasible. You get strategic thinking, not implementation-ready requirements.
We give you technical specifications that agencies can build from. We know what’s realistic because we actually build these things.
